Less than ten minutes after a man armed with two knives carjacked a vehicle on Okaloosa Island, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies had the suspect surrounded and in custody behind a Destin home.
27-year old Brandon Michael Stocker, address unknown, is charged with home invasion robbery, armed carjacking, burglary, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, hit and run "failure to stop" and hit and run "leaving the scene of an accident". No serious injuries were reported.
The Okaloosa Sheriff’s Office got the initial call of a carjacking at the Tom Thumb near the Elks Lodge on Okaloosa Island around 10:27 a.m.
A black male had gone into the store and purchased a hot dog, then went outside and forced an elderly woman from her car before taking it.
An OCSO supervisor spotted the Gold Denali with a handicapped plate out of Michigan going eastbound on Highway 98 near the Marler Bridge in Destin. Deputies pursued the vehicle on Harbor Boulevard, where the driver, later identified as Stocker, hit two cars near Harbor Docks restaurant. Stocker then cut through a parking lot at Old Time Pottery shopping center and headed up Main Street with deputies converging on the area. He bailed out of his car at 419 Main Street and took off on foot. Okaloosa deputies caught up with Stocker in the backyard as he was running up a stairwell to the home. He was taken into custody around 10:35 a.m., approximately eight minutes after the initial crime was reported.
Stocker told investigators he was headed to that home with plans to kill the grandmother of a man who ripped him off in a drug deal.
