The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to try to determine the
circumstances surrounding the death of a Destin teenager in November 2014.
An autopsy had revealed that 18-year old Jonha Campbell, whose body had washed
ashore on a beach west of the East Pass, died from a gunshot wound to the head.
He was last seen alive at his home on Airport Road around 1:50 p.m. November 20th.
Jonha did not show up for work that day and did not answer repeated calls to his cell
phone.
A deputy patrolling Gulf Shore Drive in Destin spotted a Honda Civic near the
Norriego Point beach access on November 26th. The car, which turned out to belong to
Campbell, had reportedly been there several days. Campbell’s driver’s license, some
cash, and his debit card were inside. A person later reported seeing someone matching
Campbell’s description in that area alone.
Investigators have interviewed dozens of family, friends, co-workers and
acquaintances, but would still like to talk to anyone who believes they may have
information that could be beneficial, or who interacted with Campbell around that
timeframe.
There is currently no clear determination as to whether or not the gunshot wound was
self-inflicted.
Anyone with any information reference Campbell is asked to please call the Okaloosa
County Sheriff’s Office at 850-651-7400 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-
TIPS, www.emeraldcoastcrimestoppers.com, or by texting “TIP214 plus your message”
to CRIMES (274637.)
