On January 3, 2012 the Dothan Police Department responded to a report of an assault in progress at 5:32 a.m. at Motel 6 located at 2907 Ross Clark Circle. Upon arrival, patrolmen learned the assault was domestically motivated and involved a male suspect and a female victim with whom the suspect had a previous relationship with. As further information was developed, witness accounts indicated that both suspect and victim were inside of a motel room and that the victim was likely being held against her will. The Crisis Negotiation and Special Response Teams were activated to respond and assist with resolving the incident. Crisis negotiators began talking with the suspect at 6:28 a.m. and continued communications through multiple conversations until 8:45 a.m. at which time the suspect had agreed to release the victim and surrender. At 8:47 a.m. the victim was released without injury and the suspect was successfully detained by the Special Response Team. The Criminal Investigative Unit has now taken over the case and says charges are pending and are expected to be released along with the suspects’ information later today.
