DOTHAN, Alabama — Wiregrass Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up Charitable Foundation has awarded the Slocomb Volunteer Fire Department $9,000 toward special equipment upgrades and new initiatives that will help it better serve the Slocomb area.
“We are glad to be able to help these men and women do their jobs better,” said Stanley Aman, president of the Operation Round Up board of trustees. “This is exactly the reason that WEC created this board — to help make the Wiregrass a better place.”
WEC created the Operation Round Up Charitable Foundation in 2015 to distribute money collected from rounding up members’ electric bills. “This is a popular national program that we were proud to start at Wiregrass Electric,” said Brad Kimbro, chief operating officer at WEC. “As a cooperative, we exist to do more than just provide affordable, reliable electricity. Electric cooperatives like WEC help make their service areas a better place to live. That’s what Operation Round Up allows us to do.
