On Sunday night, I responded to a structure fire for RSN. I was listening to my scanner and I heard a firefighter call in to Com Center (Covington County Dispatch) and he stated that he had received a call about a structure fire on Covala Road. Opp Fire Department was dispatched at around 8:48 P.M. The structure was not a total loss. Opp Fire was able to extinguish the fire before it destroyed the abandoned residence. The house had no power turned onto the residence at the time of the fire. The Alabama State Fire Marshal's Office has charged William "Brad" Burleson, 22, with Arson in the Second Degree. Arson in the Second Degree is a Class B Felony and could cost a person to stay 60 years in jail. Burleson has been a firefighter with the Opp Fire Department for approximately 2 years. Burleson was booked into the Covington County Jail on a $20,000.00 Bond. Burleson has made bond since being arrested.
