Ozark Police Investigate Robbery... Once Suspect In Jail, The Other In Hospital After Victim Fights Back & Escapes Gunpoint
Ozark Police were notified on Tuesday afternoon August 20, 2013 of a possible robbery which occurred on Gill Drive. Patrol Officers requested response from the Wiregrass Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force for subsequent investigation.
After Task Force Agents completed their initial investigation it was determined that the victim was confronted by two suspects, one of which was armed with a handgun. The suspects demanded money from the victim. When the victim was unable to comply with the suspects demands the victim was ordered to call his girlfriend and to tell her to give the suspects money. One of the suspects left the robbery scene and travelled to the second location where he was given an undisclosed amount of money. While the lone suspect held the victim at gunpoint, the victim saw a possible opportunity for escape and the victim engaged the suspect in a violent struggle. The victim was able to flee the residence and go to a neighboring residence to summon law enforcement. Ozark Patrol Officers located one suspect enroute back to the Gill Drive address and conducted a traffic stop. The suspect was taken into custody. During the investigation law enforcement was notified that a person had arrived at the emergency department of Dale Medical Center with injuries consistent of an assault. Upon arrival of law enforcement it was discovered that this was the other suspect involved in the robbery. The suspect had driven himself to the medical facility. The suspect was later transported to a Dothan hospital in serious condition. During the investigation Agents did recover the weapon used in the robbery as well as the money taken during the crime.
At this time Task Force Agents have arrested Quamell Rashad Crittendon, age 20 of Ozark charging him with Robbery 1stDegree and Kidnapping 1st Degree. Crittendon was placed in the Dale County Jail without bond. Charges for Robbery 1st Degree and Kidnapping 1st Degree are pending against the additional suspect whose name is being withheld until his discharge from the hospital and his subsequent arrest. The victim received only minor injuries during the crime.
