PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Some locals say they're having a tough time making ends meet this March, and they say the city's spring break laws are to blame. A group of residents staged a protest outside city hall on Thursday.
Last year the Panama City Beach city council passed a number of laws to curb spring break rowdiness.
"Almost every one on the city council was concerned for people who work and how it would affect their lives and our economy, but sometimes we have to make hard decisions to do what's best for the community," said Panama City Beach Mayor Gayle Oberst.
These protestors say this spring break has left them broke. They're asking the city to repeal the ban of alcohol on the sandy beaches.
"Everything from the scooters, the tow trucks are an issue, the crazy towing, that's a big issue," said Michael Austell-Bennett, protest organizer. "It feels like it's turned into a police state,"
