According to WDHN's Ken Curtis, A complaint was filed Monday after video showed a man appearing to steal political signs in Dothan. The report was filed by the husband of Beth Kenward, one of three candidates seeking election to the District Five seat on the city commission.
One person was questioned by police about the thefts but not charged. “We don’t believe that person had anything to do with it,” said Police Captain Bubba Ott. “We also see no evidence that any of the three candidates were involved.” He noted a man arrested two years ago for the same offense had no affiliation with any of the candidates.
Video of a man was captured early Saturday on a surveillance camera placed in or near the yard of a home owner on Woodmere Drive. It was made public after a copy was given to WDHN/DothanFirst.com.
Theft and mutilation of signs occur regularly during campaigns. Kenward said Saturday the thefts are frustrating and have cost her several hundred dollars.
The election will be held Tuesday. A runoff, if necessary, will be conducted March 24.
