DOTHAN: This week churches from all walks of life and denominations came together at the Dothan Civic Center for a night of prayer.
Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz made it possible for the service to be held in the Dothan Civic Center.
In March of this year Dr. W. Charles Lewis of Dothan Community Church became burdened for the community churches to come together for a area wide prayer service for the City of Dothan.
The groundwork for the Prayer's of the Righteous came about in the early hours of March 22 that when the gathering was placed on his heart by the Lord. "The Lord work me up with a vision for bringing churches together for prayer," Lewis said it was not a vision or a dream it was something the Lord initiated.
Lewis then felt the need to speak with someone of influence in Dothan and turned to Pastor Ray Jones of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
Dr. Lewis shared the vision and Jones replied "I'm with you. We ought to do it".
One month later, on April 22nd Lewis walked into his office when an office staff member asked him to come see something on his computer screen. God had placed the same idea on the heart of a lady for a national day of prayer. Lewis said he knew at that time it was like a shot in the arm.
A group of ladies were praying to gather people of influence and call the churches of America together. The lady contacted Dr. Tony Evans of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas. Evans will be hosting a National Gathering on September 21st in Dallas. Lewis plans to attend that service.
And through this vision and prayers, came Wednesday when many area churches moved their mid week services to the Dothan Civic Center. A packed house.
A night that was not about politics, missions, objectives, denominations, race, or any issue other than...lifting up this community to heaven and asking for GOD'S blessings.
A great time of spiritual fellowship.
