Sheriff LeRoy Upshaw announced that the body of a black male has been located in a wooded area on Sutton Dairy Rd. Ariton, AL. Upshaw said the body was located by a searcher just before nightfall on Tuesday January 24, 2012 and is believed to be the body of a Clio, AL man that was reported missing on Saturday January 14, 2012.
Lt. David Morris, lead investigator in the case said that the scene was processed and the body will be taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy today. Investigators will be present at the autopsy to collect any evidence and attempt to make positive identification of the victim.
Sheriff Upshaw expressed his appreciation to Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson and his deputies, Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes and his deputies. Dothan Police Department Chief Of Police Greg Benton and his officers, Barbour County District Attorney Investigator Lee Hamm, Barbour County Coroner Chip Chapman, the Barbour County Sheriff Office deputies and the searchers for everyone's assistance at the scene as well as the technical support.
Sheriff Upshaw stated he is not releasing any other details at this time so as not to compromise the case and for respect
