On July 20, 2016 at 1pm a Dale County Deputy was on patrol on Hwy 27 just West of Ozark when he observed a white male riding an ATV towards Ozark at a high rate of speed. The suspect matched the description of Jeffrey Scott, who is a wanted escapee out of the Alabama Department of Corrections and was believed to be occupying a stolen ATV from Coffee County.
The deputy attempted a traffic stop on the suspect but he refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit went down several paved and dirt roads in the Marley Mill Community and into Coffee County.
The suspect turned down a logging road near the Dale/Coffee County line and led deputies and troopers into a heavily wooded area. The suspect wrecked the ATV and fled on foot. DOC tracking teams along with aviation units from Dale County SO, Coffee County SO and ALEA were able to deploy and track the suspect for several miles into the woods until weather and other variables made the search impractical.
We urge citizens residing in the Marley Mill Community and especially along West CR-36 and CR-235 to be vigilant and contact us immediately if they see any suspicious activity in the area. We have increased patrols in the area until new information develops.
