Here is the latest information from the Prichard Police Department:
Prichard Police have confirmed an accident involving two of their officers and a suspect at approximately 2:15 PM. The accident occurred at the intersection of Prichard Avenue and College Street. Police officers Benjamin Neilsen and Zack McArthur were in one vehicle, riding as partners when they responded to another officer who reported he was in pursuit of a male suspect driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. The suspect, Sammy Dennis of Prichard, had been pulled over for a routine traffic stop when he suddenly took off. Officers Neilsen and McArthur were traveling west on Prichard Ave when the suspect attempted to make a left turn in front of them onto College Street from Prichard Avenue when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and rammed the Prichard police vehicle head on. Officers Neilsen and McArthur were transported to a local hospital. They were both conscious and alert and their injuries did not appear life-threatening. Mr. Dennis was also transported to a local hospital under police custody with injuries suffered during the accident.
