Last night probationary firefighters in Ashford learned what it is like to feel the heat and fight the flames in real live burn training. Firefighters have to learn what their limitations are and the limitations of their equipment. Trainings like this helps to prepare these new recruits in what to expect when they dance with the devil.
The simulator allows firefighters to experience roll over, extreme heat, flashovers, firefighting and search and rescue in total darkness all while in a controlled situation. Firefighters in the county use this training simulator for other training other than just firefighting. This simulator can be used for forcible entry training, ventilation training, basement firefighting and firefighter safety.
The biggest advantage of the simulator is to train firefighters while keeping control of the situation. If firefighters are going to make mistakes it always better to make them now instead of during the real thing.
The short video below shows just a little bit of the training the firefighters go through.
