COLUMBIA: A press conference will be held at 1 PM in the Town of Columbia.
A press conference will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Town Hall of Columbia, 203 South Washington
at 1 p.m. Mr. Terry Henderson, AL Dept of Economic and Community Affairs Law Enforcement and Traffic Safety Division (LETS) performed an audit of the last 4 years of Traffic Safety Overtime Grants. I will release the findings of the audit that was held on October 24, 2012. The grants were not in compliance with the established written agreement between the Town of Columbia and Enterprise State Community College.
Thanks,
Mayor Sandra Lovett
Town of Columbia
According to information the audit showed the Columbia Police Department to not be in compliance with the requirements of the grant. Records are reported to not have been provided to the auditors by the Columbia Police Chief.
This next week will be changing of the guards on the Columbia Mayor and some Columbia councilman. The Columbia Mayor, Sandra Lovett, decided not to seek re-election.
Mayor Lovett has attempted to handle some issues involving the Chief of Police. Each time the majority of the council members voted against the Mayor and in favor of the Chief of Police, thus forcing the Mayor to retain the Chief of Police.
According to information in the audit, the council will not be faced with paying back some $ 5,000.00 of money the grant provided for the Town.
We will have more information after the Press Conference
