HOUSTON COUNTY:    It is hard to believe this year will bring Andy Hughes in his third election as Houston County Sheriff.

Sheriff Hughes qualified to seek his third term as Sheriff.

Without a doubt, I endorse Andy Hughes as Houston County Sheriff.

Andy Hughes has brought  law and order and a professional department to Houston County. The deputies are responsive and dedicated to the safety of the citizens and guests of Houston County.

The men and women who work at Houston County Sheriff Department love working for Andy Hughes. He expects them to treat the citizens and guests with dignity and respect, yet uphold their oath of being a law enforcement officer.

Hughes selected Donald Valenza as his Chief Deputy. Valenza started with the Sheriff Department when A.B. Clark was the Sheriff. He has come up in the department and made an outstanding second in command,

Along with Valenza his command staff includes Jeff Carlisle. He is a Captain and makes me feel old. Carlisle, a graduate of Ashford Hugh School played football. Playing at a time I escorted the team when I was with the Sheriff Department. In addition, Hughes brought Antonio Gonzalez and Keith Reed as Captains.

Hughes selected Bill Rafferty to command his investigative unit.

All command staff, but most important, all of the men and women of the Sheriff Department, the jail, the support staff, all serve with dedication.

And then, Andy Hughes gets out on the streets and works himself. He does not just work in the office performing administrative duties, Andy Hughes gets in the trenches and works.

Deputies have told me several times, it makes them feel good when they see the black Tahoe drive up and Hughes steps out as their back up officer. Hughes does so as “Deputy” and fellow officer protecting, not as “Sheriff” to take command of the officer’s call.

And then there is Eve. Who is Eve, Well she is the person who maintains law and order and control over Andy. LOL. Eve is Sheriff Hughes wife. She supports him in his job. She understands that Andy has to be on the phone. That times their Friday and Saturday evenings are spent with Andy on the streets working. That when they go to the grocery store or to eat, people want to talk to their Sheriff.

Eve and their children have been supportive of Andy in his political job as Sheriff.

Hopefully Andy Hughes will go in as the first Sheriff not to have a challenger.

HANDS DOWN…Andy Hughes has served this county well as Sheriff. He maintain professionalism. And as an officer, he is someone you want at your side. Man enough to handle the situation.
