Sometimes folks complain that they go to a food festival and don’t get any free food. That’s usually because they don’t know where to be and when to look for it. This insider guide- exclusive to readers of Rickey Stokes News- tells you where to get your free samples during the 9th annual Tri-State BBQ Festival April 11-12, 2014 at the Houston County Farm Center.

Friday night there’s no FREE samples, but there is a chili cook off for charity and you can donate to the March of Dimes and get some samples.

Saturday April 12th- here’s your guide to freebies:

From 10am until they run out- The Blue Bell Ice Cream truck will be parked up by the main stage and they will be handing out free ice cream and novelties until they run out. Eat all you like!

Throughout the Day in the McLeods Publick House tent- free samples of moonshine from Alabama’s only legal moonshine makers, Stills Crossroads.

Get free samples after each of the cooking demonstrations! Pork sliders, slaw, ribs mac and chess, and wings are all on the menu! The Cooking Demos were almost straight ahead from the main entrance gate, on the left just before "BBQ ROW" Look for the Wind Creek Food Truck! Here’s the times and what’s being served:

  • 10:30-12noon- Jalapeno Blue Cheese Slaw and tips for great Pork BBQ. At the end of this segment we will give away samples of pork sliders with the slaw on them.

  • 1pm-2pm- Ribs and macaroni and cheese. We will give out samples at the end of the segment of both items.

  • 3pm-4pm- Smoked Wings and Homemade BBQ Sauce. Samples after the segment.

People’s Choice BBQ Sampling- eat as much BBQ as you can hold! Pulled pork samples for free in the Five Star Credit Union tent to the right of the main stage begin at 2:30 pm.  Read all about it here : http://tristatebbq.com/2014/02/06/peoples-choice-format-changed-more-samples-for-spectators/  Samples available as long as they last (we plan on having close to 10,000 samples available!

Other ideas for samples- visit Perfect Bite BBQ and Sid’s Shotgun Seasonings for samples of their products as well, and check out the many sponsor booths and vendors to see what they have to offer. Remember, if you know where to look, you can enjoy lots of great samples and foods!
