Summer Camp 2015

Discovery Days

4-5 year olds

Some of our favorite childhood stories take place on the farm or in nature. We will spend time exploring some of those favorites like The Story of Ferdinand, The Little Red Hen and Charlie the Caterpillar. We will spend time at the farm with the Park’s cows and chickens thinking about how Ferdinand and Little Red from our stories compare. Some of our mornings will also be spent searching the nature trails in search of our own caterpillars like Charlie!

Earth Art

6-8 year olds

A little paint, plaster and your own creativity can turn any pine cone, leaf, twig, chicken feather or stone into a work of art. Nature offers the perfect inspiration for campers to let their artistic side shine. This week will be spent painting, constructing and inventing original pieces of art. We will also save time each day for exploring, exciting games and stories.

Earth Explorers

What does it mean to be a native plant or animal? Which plants and animals go in each category? Why is it important? Find the answers to these questions and so much more in this year’s Earth Explorers. Partake in thematic crafts, games, and fun, all the while learning about the local environment. With knowledge comes the power to protect the world around us.

Pioneer Farm

6-8 year olds

Life on a Wiregrass Farmstead was hard work 100 years ago. Feeding and tending to the animals, working in the garden and keeping up with chores kept everyone busy. But summer time on the farm was also a time for fun and adventure! Spend the week working and playing on the farm learning about life 100 years ago with daily chores, old-fashioned games and plenty of time to explore. The week will end on Thursday night with a sleepover spent in the farm house after a cookout and marshmallow roast. Thursday dinner and Friday breakfast will be provided.

We will spend one day at Whetstone Falls wading in the creek looking for shark teeth. Why do we find them 100 miles from the beach? We will enjoy another day learning basic canoeing skills at a local pond with plenty of time for races and swimming. We will also spend time at Marianna caverns where we will do some geocaching, explore the caves, swim and discover other treasures found in nature.
