COVINGTON COUNTY AL:   In 2014 we wrote an article about an Andalusia Police ranking officer being arrested. In the article RSN stated " look deeper and beyond ".

One case which recently went to trial was that of R.C. Covington.

Covington was arrested by Covington County Sheriff Department on January 17, 2013. He was arrested on two counts of Harassment. Covington was a member of Andalusia Police Department at the time of the arrest.

All prosecutors and judicial officials from Covington County recused themselves. The Chief Justice appointed Geneva County District Court Judge Stephen Smith to hear the case in District Court. District Attorney Doug Valeska was appointed to prosecute the case.

In District Court Covington was found guilty. He appealed to Covington County Circuit Court. In the appeal Circuit Court Judge Larry Anderson was appointed. Valeska continued as the prosecutor.

Covington was represented by Attorney Jim Parkman and William White. The case went t a jury trial and Covington was found NOT GUILTY.

The case stems from adults in powerful position actually being immature children.

While members of the Covington County Drug Task Force were "wiring up" a confidential informant. A member of the drug task force, Amanda Hart, said she did not have a problem working with Andalusia Police Department  but refused to work with R.C. Covington.

While at the Drug Task Force Center, Andalusia Police Investigator Roger Cender told Hart that Investigator Paul Dean might be coming to their office. Hart said that was okay as long as Covington was not with him.

Covington came in and sit down on the couch. Hart sent Commander David Harrell and Commander Mark Odom a text message that Covington was at the office. Harrell sent a reply to Hart that he was on the way to the office.

When Harrell arrived at the office, Hart, Jody Scott and Covington were sitting in the front office. When Harrell arrived he walked in the door and to Hart's desk and said to Covington "I never expected to see your face out here since he ( Covington ) threw David out of Andalusia Police Department."

Covington then replied " he did not kick him no fxxxxxxx where. Then David stated to him " yeah you and your Chief did". Covington then got loud and told David "to get his facts straight before he said anything to him".

At that point David came around the corner and told Covington to leave, that he was not going to disrespect him and talk to him that was in his own office. Covington replied that he was not going to disrespect him and talk to him that was in his own office. A second time David told Covington to leave.

Covington then told David he wasn't going any fxxxxxx where. David told him to leave again at which time Covington replied " why don't you put me the fxxx out". David told him he could handle that and called deputies with Covington County Sheriff Department.

A few more words were exchanged between Covington and David. At that point Covington then left.

By the time Covington County Sheriff Deputies arrived both Paul Dean and R.C. Covington had left.

These childish actions are your law enforcement in Covington County Alabama. Members of the Covington County Sheriff Department and Andalusia Police Department.

A jury of 12, with Covington being represented by Jim Parkman and William White, was found NOT GUILTY.
