The Dothan-Houston County Rotary Club is pleased to announce that it has allocated funds to area non-profits in order to assist organizations which are striving to help area citizens, animals, and improve quality of life in the Wiregrass. On Tuesday, September 25th during the Club’s weekly meeting at the Dothan Country Club, $19,360 was presented to five Wiregrass area non-profit organizations.
Boys & Girls Club Home of Dothan received an allocation for a new HVAC unit. Currently the home has an entire wing of their building which cannot be used due to the lack of a functioning HVAC unit.
Wiregrass Hope Group was allocated funds to be used for the replacement of flooring in the hallways, lobbies, and reception areas of the Center.
Wiregrass Children’s Home received an allocation to assist in upgrading playground equipment to replace severely worn equipment.
Wiregrass Spay Neuter Alliance was assisted in purchasing two new washing machines and one new dryer. In efforts to keep costs low, WSNA does not use disposable items, therefore, there is an extensive amount of laundry to perform daily.
The Downtown Group was allocated funds toward the purchase of a laptop computer which will be used to prepare marketing materials and market downtown Dothan through the web and social media.
Each year, the Club’s allocation committee reviews applications submitted from area non-profits, which have the sponsorship of a Dothan-Houston County Rotary Club member, in order to allocate funds to the various worthwhile causes of these organizations. One member from each non-profit organization was in attendance at the meeting and accepted the charitable gift from the Club. Christie Armstrong, Executive Director of Wiregrass Children’s Home, said, “On behalf of the Board of Directors, children, and house parents, it was an honor to receive funds to assist us with a much needed playground renovation which will benefit our children now and those yet to come.”
In addition to the presentation of funds to area non-profits, Rotary International District 6880 Governor Jim Golson was the featured speaker at the meeting. District Governor Golson said, “It is always a privilege to meet with Rotarians who are supporting their community activities and I commend the members of the Dothan-Houston County Rotary Club for their outstanding support of non-profit organizations in the Wiregrass area.”
