S.A. “Red” Corbitt passed away Monday, August 17, 2015, surrounded by family at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He was 85.


Red was born December 10, 1929 in Noma, Florida to the late J.L. Corbitt and Beatrice Rushing Corbitt.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Jeanette Kirkland Corbitt, his son, Edward Corbitt, along with four brothers and two sisters, Vertie Lee Elmore, Mary Ellen Phillips, Wayne Corbitt, Jim Corbitt, Leon Corbitt, and Wendell Corbitt.


He is survived by his wife, Addie Corbitt, as well as his children Jan Johnson (Tim) of Ozark, Deborah Camp (Bobby) of Slocomb, and his sister, Colleen Baxley of Graceville, two sisters-in-law, Mildred Corbitt of Dothan, and Bobbie Corbitt, of Longwood, FL, his three grandsons Corey Camp (Hayden) of Slocomb, Casey Camp of Dothan, and Jason Johnson of Kansas. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Caden, Ryleigh, and Charley Camp.


Also surviving him are his step children, Daniel Williams (Connie) and Paula Brabham (John) seven step grandchildren, Jessica Jones, Brianna Etress, Anslee Williams, Madison Aiken, Sarah Aiken, Dallas Potter, Cassidy Potter, as well as three step great grandchildren.


Red was loved by many, and truly was a remarkable man. He was the owner of JM Electric Supply Co. Inc., in Dothan from 1981-1991. He will forever be remembered as a great man, father, grandfather, employer, and salesman. In his early years, he was a standout basketball player at Poplar Springs High School in Graceville, FL. Following his graduation, he proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy. Before retiring in 1990, he worked in the electrical wholesale business for forty years. At his retirement, he was the owner of J.M. Electric Supply Co. Inc.


Red enjoyed farming, fishing, and watching his grandchildren play ball. Everyone who knew Red, knew how much he loved Alabama Football. He loved his family, friends and his church, New Providence Baptist Church.


The family would like to extend many thanks to the staff at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for their kindness and support through his transition into heaven.


Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Memphis Baptist Church, 4595 Eddins Rd. Dothan, AL. The funeral will also be held at Memphis Baptist Church at 11:00am on Friday, August 21. Burial to follow at the Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, located in Graceville, Florida.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Providence Baptist Church, c/o Winona Welborn or to the charity of your choice.
