Join us at Landmark Park on Saturday, April 30 for a Sacred Harp Sing. This is sometimes referred to as a "Shape Note" or "Fasola". This is a shared experience that emphasizes participation by everyone and is non-denominational. Experience this American tradition that was born out of Colonial "singing schools" whose purpose was to teach beginners how to sing.
For many this not only serves as a community event, but also functions as a religious observance. Singers attending this event may simply show your songbook for free admission to the park. Regular admission is $4 for adults, $3 for kids and free for children two and under and members.
Meet us in the Headland Presbyterian Church to hear and participate in the sweet and powerful sounds of the Sacred Harp music. This event will get underway at 10:00a.m. and end at 2:30p.m. Prior to the singing a short introduction or "lesson" for visitors unfamiliar with the tradition with begin at 9:30a.m. At noon the singers will gather under the spreading branches of a nearby live oak tree to enjoy a traditional dinner-on-the-grounds.
