SAMC Diabetes Education Program Merits ADA Recognition

DOTHAN, Ala. – Southeast Alabama Medical Center’s (SAMC) Diabetes Treatment Center recently received national recognition for its program to educate diabetics on managing their disease.
The Diabetes Treatment Center was awarded the Education Recognition Certificate from the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The program was first recognized by ADA in 1995. ADA believes high-quality education is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment.
“The process gives professionals a national standard by which to measure the quality of services they provide,” said Diane Granger, RN, director of SAMC’s Diabetes Treatment Center. “And of course, it assures the consumer of high-quality diabetes care.”
This recognition certifies that the Diabetes Treatment Center’s educational programs meet the national diabetes self-management standards. The standards were developed and tested under the guidance of the National Diabetes Advisory Board.m
Programs voluntarily apply for the four year certification and it verifies that the Diabetes Treatment Center staff provides comprehensive information about diabetes management.
