SAMC Foundation distributes grants to hospital
The SAMC Foundation released $287,716.23 in grants to SAMC during the charitable organization’s annual department awards announcement January 25. The funding was approved by the SAMC Foundation Board of Trustees. Most of the Foundation’s grants to the hospital this year are directed toward safety and quality at SAMC, community outreach initiatives and patient comfort and education. The Foundation’s top projects this year include the new Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program, prescription and transportation assistance and a cancer rehab program in early January, brings distributions to the hospital this fiscal year to more than $291,000.
Information Systems department assists with computer lab update
Members of the SAMC Information Systems team recently conducted a service project at the Alfred Saliba Family Services center’s computer lab. The department raised money and donated time to update the lab, which is used daily by many individuals from all walks of life, many of whom are seeking jobs, learning computer skills, creating resumes and planning a career.
Seeking teenage volunteers
Now is the time for eligible teenagers to apply for SAMC’s TeenAge Volunteer (TAV) program. Students currently in grades 8 – 12 may apply. Students should have some interest in the medical field and desire to help others. They must maintain a “C” average in their academic subjects and be willing to maintain a minimum number of volunteer hours each month. Applications are due April 15 and may be picked up at the hospital’s Information Desk or in the Volunteer Services office. For more information, call 334-793-8122.
