Sweet Tea Society announces kickoff event

SAMC is stirring up some excitement as we kick off our fifth year of the “Sweet Tea Society (STS).” We’ve refilled the sweet tea pitcher with a smooth blend of fun and fellowship brewed exclusively for women. Join us for the first quarter event with nationally known humorist Tracy DeGraaf. She is engaging, entertaining and combines humor with a motivational speaking style that people love. She is an author, speaker, comedian and mother of five. Trained at The Second City in Chicago, she cut her comedy teeth at open-mic nights in the Windy City making her fearless on stage.

Tickets can be purchased for $15 at the Dothan Civic Center, by calling 334-615-3175 or online at www.dothanciviccenter.org (Additional fees apply when ordering online).

Champions of Hope is Oct. 15

The Sandi McCool Champions of Hope is an annual 5 & 10-K competitive race, 1-mile Spirit Walk and Kid Fit Challenge community breast cancer awareness event staged by the SAMC Foundation. This year’s event will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 beginning at 8 a.m. on the campus of the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. Proceeds from Champions of Hope help expand cancer services and programs offered by SAMC, including cancer navigation services and customized information reference binders for newly diagnosed patients and post-mastectomy comfort kits. For more information visit samcfoundation.org.

Foundation, ER fund CPR education

The SAMC Foundation in partnership with SAMC’s Emergency Services recently presented a check for $15,400 to the Dothan Fire Rescue team to help first responders continue their lifesaving efforts through enhanced technology and Hands Only CPR community teaching kits.  The two-pronged community outreach award was made possible through generous donations to the foundation for emergency and heart and vascular services.
