DOTHAN: For the second day in a row Dothan's Southeast Alabama Medical Center has notified all emergency responders they are on "critical care patient diversion".
SAMC has been on and off critical patient diversion recently. One day in recent weeks they were on "complete" patient diversion.
Why critical care diversion? This means the hospital, mostly the emergency room, is full and they do not have the staff on hand to handle critical patients. Any critical care patients are being diverted to Flowers Hospital.
Often times SAMC patients back up in the Emergency Department awaiting beds to be open on the floors of the hospital to accept patients. With the flu season often times SAMC has been at capacity of beds versus required staff to manage those patients.
