DOTHAN:    On Saturday morning a lot of people gathered at Westgate Park for " A Walk To Remember " in support of Alzheimer's.

The 2015 walk was a 1 mile - 3 mile - 5 mile walk-a-thon to benefit the Alzheimer's Resource Center.

Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative disease of the brain that robs its victims of their memory and cognitive abilities. It is the sixth leading cause of death among adults.

The Alzheimer's Resource Center is located at 1314 Westgate Parkway, Suite 2, Dothan Alabama. The email address is [email protected] or the web page os wesharethecare.org.

The Alzheimer's Resource Center has helped support 20,000 families in various ways. Some of those is in providing material, phone calls and visits.

The primary financial support comes from the walk-a-thon or donations. Donations can be made by mailing checks to the Dothan address. Support stays local.

You can also donate by logging onto their web site.

People from all walks of life we on hand Saturday. One man in his 80's was joined by some younger walkers. He was determined to walk the 5 mile walk. He was supported by the younger walkers who stayed with him as well as Lt. Randy Anderson and Deputy Chad Hammack of Houston County Sheriff Department. You can hear Lt. Anderson encouraging him as he was having problems and having to rest. And the young people with him were awesome.

The Maddox sisters were the organizers in memory and honor of their father who passed with Alzheimer's.

My mother also suffered from the disease. It is sad to see your loved one in good health physically but can not remember anything or watch TV and understand.
