Scam Alert in Jackson County

It has been reported to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office of a scam that appears to be targeting grandparents.


 


The grandparent receives a call from someone claiming to be a grandchild. The person states they are on a trip (usually abroad) and are in need of money due to unforeseen circumstances. These circumstances could be medical emergency, theft of their funds, or incarcerated, needing the grandparent to wire money immediatly.  


 


Before sending money the grandparent should attempt to contact the grandchild and the child’s parents to ensure the grandchild is infact traveling.
