Houston County Deputies are out with multiple trees and power lines down in Sothern and Eastern Houston County. There are trees down in Rehobeth, Lovetown and Gordon areas. Power has been out here in Rehobeth for close to a hour now. Heavy rains and high winds have been reported all across Houston County.
This morning just before dawn; it sounded like the world was coming to an end for some in Gordon. The weather forecast was for thunderstorms and some could be severe. Around 4 am the main line of storms came through Houston County knocking down trees and power lines. With heavy rain and high winds, the further it went across Houston County the stronger it all got.
When the storm line got into eastern Houston County the damage was also worse. We know a barn on Hodgesville was damaged and trees fell on a mobile home and a car in Gordon. Gordon resident Robert Witt stated "It was raining, and then it got real quiet, real still... and then boom. All heck broke loose," That was the sound of strong winds damaging homes, cars and power lines. Trees came crashing down on roofs, and some woke up to even find their cars crushed. The storm hit while most people were still asleep. When emergency crews arrived, roads were blocked by limbs and other debris. Then at the break of dawn, out came the chainsaws and the clean up began.
Thankfully no one was injured or killed in this powerful storm.
