MONTGOMERY: The Chief of Staff to Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, Seth Hammitt, has resigned.
Seth Hammitt served Alabama as Speaker of the House until his retirement from the House several years ago. Hammitt was very successful when dealing and leading the Alabama a Legislature.
We understand there has been a rift in the Governor's a Office for months. While I am not an insider of the Governors Office, sources have said Hammitt was not aware of a Legislative Special Session when Bentley called the first one. Those sources say only Governor Bentley and Rebekah Mason knew. Hammitt, according to sources, was out of the state, reported to have been in Colorado.
Those close to the Governor's Office report Hammitt was not real happy about it. His extensive legislative experience would have been very valuable to resolving Alabama's budget crisis. But Governor Bentley only depended on Mason as we understand.
What was behind the Andalusia native's departure? We do not know for sure.
But it is apparent, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley's tenure is spinning out of control.
