A Dothan, Alabama man is in jail under a $250,000.00 bond after Henry County Deputies discovered approximately sixteen (16) pounds of high-grade marijuana in his vehicle.

Thursday night at approximately 11:25 p.m. Sgt. Jesse Ingram attempted to stop a 2008 Black Chrysler Aspen traveling south on U.S. Highway 431 near Abbeville for a traffic violation when the driver fled. Authorities pursued the vehicle at a high rate of speed for several miles on 431 and eventually stopped the vehicle just north of Headland.

Vantwain Lashun Stokes, age 33, from Dothan, Alabama was then taken into custody for “attempting to elude law enforcement”. Once in custody, Sgt. Ingram went to turn-off and secure Stokes vehicle when he smelled a very strong odor of green marijuana. During a probable cause search, authorities discovered several pounds of marijuana in a duffle-bag in the cargo section of the SUV.

“This marijuana was taken off the highway before it could be sold in the community and another drug dealer is in jail because of the hard work of our Deputies. I appreciate the job these men do day after day to keep drugs off our streets”, said Sheriff Will Maddox.

Stokes has been charged with one count of “trafficking in marijuana” and “attempting to elude” and is being held in the Henry County Jail under a $251,000.00 bond.

Henry County Deputies have made a significant number of arrests for trafficking in marijuana and controlled substances but the flow of illegal drugs continues to be the major problem for law enforcement with no end in sight.

“We’re going to continue to be aggressive and not let up when it comes to arresting drug dealers”, added Sheriff Maddox.
