DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY: It took a Houston County Jury of 12 about 90 minutes for NOT GUILTY verdicts of a Dothan man.
The case of Kenneth Thornton, age 20, was on trial before 20th Judicial Circuit Judge Butch Binford. Thornton was on trial from a January 2016 arrest by Dothan Police Investigator Moore on two counts of Sodomy and one county of Intimidating A Witness.
Thornton was under multiple $ 100,000.00 bonds.
Dothan Attorney Shaun McGhee was appointed to represent Kenneth Thornton. McGhee is in the law firm of Smith and McGhee on West Main Street next to Justice Park.
The jury of 12 was selected and the case was tried. After the State of Alabama presented their case, Shaun McGhee made a motion for a judgment of aquittal in that the State of Alabama had not presented sufficient evidence to warrant a conviction.
Judge Binford agreed with McGhee on the case of Intimidating a A Witness. Judge Binford dismissed the case. Judeg Binford made the decision to let the two cases of Sodomy proceed to a jury.
After Defense Attorney Shaun McGhee presented the defense, and the closing statements were made by the State of Alabama and Attorney McGhee, Judge Binford sent the jury to deliberate.
After 90 minutes of deliberation, the jury of 12 ruled 20 year old Kenneth Thornton NOT GUILTY of any criminal offense.
Shaun McGhee and Tom Smith are law partners in the firm of Smith and McGhee.
NOTE:
Regardless of verdicts, in cases where sexual accusations are made against someone, they often times never really get their lives back.
Before you make accusations, before a case is made, the case needs to be air tight. Because it costs a person thousands of dollars to defend themselves and their dignity, when prosecutors have unlimited amounts of money and resources in order to destroy someone's life.
