HOUSTON - HENRY COUNTY:    In what Judge Butch Binford and Taylor Flowers described, " she was made for the job ".

With that, Debbie Riley, entered another journey for life. After 30 years and three months of working as a Judicial Assistant, Debbie Riley enters retirement.

She was working at the bank when Denny Holloway was elected as a District Judge for Houston County. The newly elected Judge needed a Judicial Assistant and Debbie Riley came highly recommended.

Holloway was appointed in 1985 by then Alabama Governor George Wallace. Later Judge Holloway sought election as Circuit Judge for the Twentieth Judicial Circuit and won. The Judge moved Debbie Riley with him as he took over the new judge position.

In 2008 when Judge Holloway retired and the Alabama Governor appointed Butch Binford as Circuit Judge to the Twentieth Judicial Circuit, Judge Binford knew the wise move was to keep Debbie Riley.

Behind every good man you will find a good woman. And that has been the case of Judge Holloway and Judge Binford.

Debbie Riley was made for the job. She kept the judge focused and things running smooth.

She was kind and polite to all who came into her office. She was a counselor to those who walked in, and those who worked in, the courthouse.

Debbie Riley knew people who came into the courthouse, often times were not there by choice. Often times they needed someone to listen, some compassion and some genuine love. Debbie Riley showed that to everyone.

But, Debbie Riley could crack that whip, take charge and get things moving. And that was needed more so with Judge Holloway then with Judge Binford!!!

Houston County Circuit Clerk Carla Woodall referred to Debbie Riley as "courthouse mother". Woodall started as a student, later graduating as a court reporter, and then becoming Circuit Clerk. Woodall described how much influence and friendship Debbie Riley has had on her life.

In front of Riley's desk was a "counseling chair". Many a persons have sit in that chair and shared their problems with Debbie Riley.

Thanks Debbie Riley for your 30 years and 3 months of work in the court system and the Houston and Henry County Court system.
