Cottonwood – Today Sheriff Hughes spoke to us about the importance of this organization and what it means to have them here in Houston County. Over the past year the Houston County Sheriff’s Office has responded to multiple calls about neglected livestock in Houston County, mainly horses. Sheriff Hughes stated that if it wasn’t for this organization and others like it most of the horses would have to be put down due to health reasons.
In Houston County alone the Sheriff’s Office responds to about 1-3 calls per month for neglected horses. Sheriff Hughes explained that having such an animal like this is a huge responsibility and a lot of times people don’t think about that when getting a horse. Owning a horse takes a lot of time, money, and commitment to care for these beautiful animals.
Seal Cares is located on Gene Terry Road in Cottonwood and is the only facility in Houston County that can take care of these horses. When the Sheriff’s Office has to seize these animals, Seal Cares comes to the rescue.
It takes a lot of time and money to keep this service going, they work off donation and raise money anyway they can. They need the publics help, weather you can sponsor a horse or would like to adopt one or just want to help out you can contact them at 334-718-9355 or visit them on facebook at www.facebook.com/sealcaresanimalrescue
