Sheriff Valenza Has Staff Meeting At County Jail

HOUSTON COUNTY:     On Thursday evening the Houston County Jail parking lot was full. The crowd was employees of the Houston County Sheriff Department Correctional Officers.

Sheriff Valenza has been a frequent visitor to the Houston County Jail since his August 18th tenure started as Sheriff. Sheriff Valenza has been meeting with correctional staff members and swearing the officers in under the new command.

On Thursday Sheriff Valenza met with the correctional officers somewhat introducing himself to the staff. Sheriff Valenza introduced the staff to his way of thinking and management style. Sheriff Valenza also introduced the staff to his expectations in their job.

While Sheriff Valenza expects the chain of command to be followed, he also expressed to the department members that he follows an "open door" policy. That he expects the correctional officers to stick their head in his office and say hello when they visit the administration building of the department.

With the jail in a detached location from the administrative offices of the department, and with the large number of people employed, often times the correctional officers do not know the Sheriff.

Sheriff Valenza wants the correctional officers to know they are an important part of the department and a part of the team of the department.
