DALE COUNTY: Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson spoke to the media just before 5 PM on the scene for an update.
Sheriff Olson did not provide much details, as expected, to what the law enforcement operation was at this time. Sheriff Olson did say they have every reason to beleive the child has not been harmed and is okay. Sheriff Olson thanked the public for their support and said the biggest thing the community could do was the pray.
Sheriff Olson said while the gunman has been identified by media sources he wanted to say that law enforcement has not confirmed the identity of the gunman.
Sheriff Olson thanked all agencies involved in this operation. The current investigation into the murder and kidnapping is under investigation by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
The Operation
There are multile local, state and federal agencies involved in the operation of attempting to rescue this 6 year old child. Not from Sheriff Olson but from sources, the child is reported to be an autistic child. The suspect is reported to be cooperating and giving the child his medication.
There has been food provided for the 6 year old child and the suspect. You want the suspect to eat to make sure the child is allowed to eat.
There is a lot in this operation on going. While we do know a lot of what is happening we will not say out of caution in regards to the officers and the child. But rest assured that Sheriff Olson and all involved are working to make a succcessful conclusion of this operation.
Remember, many read things on your phone. We can not say what the suspect has and has the ability to read. We will not disclose to much information and will abide in an abundance of caution.
Pray
As Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson asked the community....PRAY.
