PICKENS COUNTY GEORGIA: On Friday 11 of us in the Alabama Extreme Jeeps left Dothan and traveled to Jasper Georgia. The 2014 SHERIFF'S JEEP FEST is being held by Pickens County Sheriff Donnie Craig, members of the Pickens County Sheriff Department and others.
We left at 4 AM from WALMART South in Dothan. A convoy of one travel trailer, one motorhome, and about 6 or 7 Jeeps started the journey to Jasper.
The SHERIFF'S JEEP FEST is held September 4th through 7th. The Jeep Fest was initially kicked off in 2011 with 50 Jeeps. Sheriff Craig and others went to Daytona Beach Florida where they looked at Beachfest. Sheriff Craig and others returned to Jasper and expanded the Sheriff Jeep Fest. From 2011 with 50 Jeeps, some 1,200 Jeeps are on hand this year.
Jeep riding trails are located around Pickens County. Some 10 trails. At the home location there are several obstacle courses that one can select from. Today SPencer and I took the Jeep on some of the courses as did the others with us.
The idea of Sheriff's Jeep Fest came to Sherif Craig as he met with others to look for ways to support the children of the CHildren's Home. With hundreds of Jeeps and some 10,000 people, Sheriff Craig and the fine people of Pickens County get to roll out the red carpet and show why they love Pickens County.
Last year this event netted about $ 70,000.00 for the three main causes for Pickens County.
The events range from Jeep Night Trail rides, Jeep Scavenger Hunt, Cruise In/Show & Shine, Vendor Meet and Greet, Concert on Main Street, Trail Rides, Raffles, Crawl on Cop Car Auction, Bonfire and Concert. On Sunday a prayer service and music, obstacles courses, Sunday Mountain Cruise to Cherokee Estates.
HATS OFF to Picken Sheriff's Craig, members of the Picken's Sheriff Department and the community for a fun filled event.
