Shoe Store Robber Arrested

On May 15th, 2014 the Dothan Police Department arrested Matthew Brewer, charging him with the robbery of the “Shoe Show”, located at 301 West Inez Road, on May 13th, 2014.
Investigators say Brewer entered the business and demanded money from the clerk, while holding them at knife-point. After Brewster was given an undisclosed amount of United States currency, he ordered the clerk into a back room and took shoes from the business, before leaving the store.
On May 14th, 2014, the Dothan Police Department located Brewer staying at a mobile trailer home in Newton, Alabama. Investigators were also advised that Brewer was believed to have murdered a person in Shreveport, Louisiana and hid the victim inside of their home prior to coming to Alabama. Investigators with the assistance of the Dale County Sheriff’s Office and the Newton Police Department made contact with Brewer at the mobile home, located on Hartford Road. Brewer was taken into custody and transported to the Dothan Police Department. Investigators made contact with the Shreveport (Louisiana) Police Department and were informed that the victim, an elderly female, was found beaten in her home, but in critical condition. Investigators say Brewer is believed to have been a tenant of the victim. The reason for the assault is still under investigation.
Matthew Brewer was arrested and charged with first degree robbery. He also now faces a second degree attempted murder charge, for the assault that occurred in Louisiana.
- Matthew Joseph Brewer, white male, 31 years of age, of Louisiana was arrested and charged with first degree Robbery. A bond amount has been set at $200,000.00.
All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
