DALE COUNTY: This morning at the Dothan Gun Club, a shooting competition was held with shooters on every level competing to see who the best was, shooters from beginner to pro competed.

Their Facilities

They are a forty acre facility, which has eight large pistol bays, a 400 yard rifle range and a natural terrain range for 3 gun matches like the one they had today. Four of the pistol bays are 40 yards wide and 30 yards deep, this is great for long range pistol shots and the elaborate USPSA stage design. The other four pistol bays are 20 yards wide and 30 yards deep and are great for Bulls Eye shooting and for shooting steel targets.

One of the small pistol bays is a dedicated steel bay with reactive steel targets. The rifle range is 400 yards long and 40 yards wide. This allows plenty of room for 12 to 14 shooters at once. There is a raised covered shooting area to enable the 400 yard shots. It has small berms at 50, 100, 200, and 300 yards for shorter shots, and they are arrange in such a way not to interfere with the 400 yard shots.

There is a natural terrain area that is only used for 3 gun matches or by special permission. It has shooting stations that allow shots from 50 yards out to 300 yards.

Next year Dan plans to add fourteen more pistol bays, in order to accommodate major USPSA, IDPA and 3 gun matches and allow more room for members to shoot without waiting for an empty bay.

In the near future Dan has plans to build a large clubhouse with pro shop, a full kitchen, a lounging area and a classroom. Then he plans to build a skeet shooting range as well.

This is still a work in progress, but you will not find a better place to go shoot both hand guns and rifles in this area.

Club Membership

Dothan Gun Club is a NRA affiliated club dedicated to the promotion of the shooting sports and the appreciation of America’s heritage of armed citizens. They do this by providing facilities for the legal, safe, and proper use of firearms in an atmosphere of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

A comprehensive safety briefing is given and is required for membership. Spouses can also be issued an identification card with a safety brief and signed waiver. Annual dues are $250, prorated throughout the fiscal year for new members only. New members must pay an initiation fee of $200. Safety is their number one goal and you must receive a safety briefing before shooting on our range.
