On March 19, 2013 the Dothan Police Department responded 1900 block of Reeves Street in reference to a firearm assault. Investigators say Colby Aguilar came to the “Yo Way” clothing store in what the owner of the business believed was to purchase clothing. While inside the business, Aguilar selected several items from the business then attempted to leave without paying for them. The store owner confronted Aguilar outside of the business in an attempt to recover the property. Aguilar then drew a firearm and pointed it at the store owner while attempting to get in his vehicle. The store owner then presented his own firearm and shot Aguilar twice. Though wounded, Aguilar was able to get into his vehicle and attempt to drive away. That vehicle then crashed into a brick column where Aguilar was found unresponsive.

Colby Aguilar died on the scene and his death has been ruled as a justifiable homicide.
