AMENDED @ 10:51 PN By Rickey Stokes
The issue of alcohol sales is an issue that was placed on the Administrative Agenda of Dothan Commission at the request for District Six (6) Commissoner Hamp Baxley. At the meeting Tuesday several area Baptist pastors signed up and spoke their covictions on the issue of allowing alcohol to be sold at 1 PM on Sunday's.
Currently in the City of Dothan, if the business requires you to become a member, which is normally sold for $ 1.00, you are allowed to become a member and purchase alcohol. The proposed legislation would allow the qualified voters the opportunity to cast their votes in August 2013 for this issue.
To be on the ballot commissioners must pass the issue and forward it onto the Alabama Legislature as local legislation. If the local legislative delegation approves, then the qualified voters of the ity of Dothan, not the Dothan Commission, will have the final say.
The Dothan Commission have moved this issue to step number 2, which is, this item will be placed on the next regular agenda of the Dothan Commission for voting up or down. Persons wishing to speak in favor of or opposition of will be allowed to speak at that commission meeting prior to the final vote.
Below is the video of the pastors and what they had to say about the proposed legislation of Commissioner Hamp Baxley.
