Shumaker Recommended As Dothan - Houston County E 911 Coordinator

DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY:   Today from 9 AM until 3 PM, members of the Dothan - Houston County E-911 conducted interviews for E 911 Coordinator.


There were four potential applicants. One, retired Dothan Police Captain David Jay withdrew his name from consideration. That left three.


The first applicant interviewed was Wanda Andress. Andress serves as Wicksburg Volunteer Fire Chief and is a In School Suspension Teacher at Wicksburg. Andress served 11 months in the year 2008 as a Houston County Sheriff Dispatcher. Andress has 20 years as a volunteer with Wicksburg Fire - Rescue.


Next Holly Brittan was interview. Brittian is currently in recods with Dothan Police Department and has 20 years employment with Dothan. Having worked as a Communications Officer and as a EMA Liason in emergencies, Brittian said emergency services and communications is her passion. Brittian left communications for Records because her daughter was a Junior in High School. Brittian has missed much of her daughters primary years because communications required shift work, nights and weekends. The move to Records allowed Brittian to work days and weekends off, therefore allowing more time with her daughter and son. Brittian has worked emergencies in Enterprise and Tuscaloosa, and brings to the table a vast number of years in experience.


Last was Carol Shumaker. Currently employed with the City of Dothan Information Technology Department, Shumaker currently works with E-911. Shumaker is responsible for a lot of the technology maintenace of 911, fiber lines, and related equipment. Shumaker is in both Dothan and Houston County Commucations Centers on a daliy basis. Shumaker brings ot the tabke the technology aspect for 911.


Following the interviews, the Advisory Board went into Executive Session. The purpose was to discuss good name and character of the applicants.


Following the Executive Session, the board returned to make a selection. The board recommends Carol Shumaker as the Dothan - Houston County E911 Coordinator. That recomendation will be forwarded to the actual Board for final approval.


The actual ruling board consists of Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz, the sitting members of Dothan Commission, Houston County Commission Chair Mark Culver and Commissioner Jackie Battles.
