Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen said Friday—very passionately—that many spring breakers stood by and did nothing while a woman was raped behind a Panama City Beach nightclub. He compared the alleged rape to "wild animals preying on a carcass laying in the woods.”
“Hundreds of people standing there watching, looking, seeing what’s going on,” the sheriff said. He noted that nobody did anything about the rape of the young woman occurred in broad daylight.
Two Troy University students, including an athlete, were arrested and McKeithen said other people are expected to be charged as well. Delonte Martistee, 22 of Bainbridge, GA and Ryan Austin Calhoun, 23, of Mobile are accused of sexual assault by multiple perpetrators.
The investigation began after Troy police discovered a cell phone recorded video of the rape. They were probing an unrelated shooting in Pike County and contacted Bay County authorities.
