PANAMA CITY BEACH-- A small Kentucky county grabbed national attention in early 2015.


Authorities arrested two teens, Dalton Hayes, 18, and Cheyenne Phillips, 13, in Panama City Beach after an alleged two-week crime spree across the southeast.


Both are back in Grayson County, Kentucky and face multiple charges. And those who know Hayes say he's starting to realize the gravity of his situation.


"I think now he does realize that," Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins said. "Dalton has an attitude, always has had an attitude as far as when it comes to authority."


Sheriff Chaffins has known Hayes and his family for many years.
