Some Elected Officials and Dothan Department Heads - Get Your Heads Out From Between Your Buttocks and FOCUSED

DOTHAN:     Today the Dothan Eagle did an article concerning the credit card of Dothan Commissioners, most especially that of District 5 Dothan Commissioner Taylor Barbaree.

For months Barbaree has been the subject of credit card expenditures.

The article was good with one exception. They brought Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz into it.

A couple of things to understand: (1) Mayor Mike Schmitz was made aware of the $ 1,000.00 cash advance. The policy was changed AFTER he was notified. (2) Mayor Mike Schmitz was not aware of the other purchases, but they were all paid back.

STAFF - being Dothan Finance and Dothan City Manager SHOULD have made the Mayor aware.

COMMISSIONER - should not have used the card as he did. Glad he paid the expenses back. But what was the Mayor to do? The Commissioner is elected and the Mayor has no more control over him than anyone else. Only the VOTERS have control and Barbaree was unopposed this past election cycle. And in no way am I defending Barbaree, but he has been through a lot but most of it was self made stupid decisions. And Mayor Schmitz has counseled Barbaree over his stupid decisions.

MAYOR MIKE SCHMITZ - reimbursement for 2 trips to China; to view a textile facility ,in Knoxville Tennesssee, a trip to Washington D.C.

MAYOR MIKE SCHMITZ - has been on more trips than that. But Mayor Mike Schmitz has spent far more of his personal money for economic development trips for the City of Dothan. Dothan should have paid the trips, but Schmitz footed the bill.

MAYOR MIKE SCHMITZ - personally paid for a supper for the City of Dothan workforce and their families. While some commissioners paid a little, Mayor Mike Schmitz personally paid THOUSANDS to feed the Dothan workforce. To show the workforce and their families they are appreciated.

MAYOR MIKE SCHMITZ makes $ 42,000.00 per year as Mayor. He GIVES AWAY far more money than he ever makes as Mayor. Mayor Schmitz drives his personal vehicle for City of Dothan business.

And, Mayor Schmitz puts up with a lot. Some are stupid decisions and conflicts with childish elected officials. And with some appointed department heads who are kindergarten thinking people. Some department heads who challenge where the Mayor wants to lead Dothan.

DOTHAN - we are fortunate to have Mike Schmitz as Mayor of Dothan. He does it for the right reason, because he LOVES Dothan Alabama.

And some elected officials and department heads, that lead large departments...

well they need to get their heads out from between the cheeks of their buttocks and focused

with Mayor Mike Schmitz on the big picture of leading Dothan.

Sorry Mayor you are stuck with some people who are  not focused on their jobs, their egos are in their ways, they are causing turmoil and there is not much you can do.
