DOTHAN:   Dothan Police Patrol Captain David Jay, at 3:13 AM, is out on the streets working with the patrol division. Captain Jay is division commander of Dothan Police Patrol. He is on the streets assisting and answering calls.

Dothan Police Major Steve Parrish has been on duty since about 2:30 AM.

Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams, at 3:13 AM, is in the Dothan Fire Command Center. Dothan Fire has additional fire engines and crews working through the night helping with the volume of calls.

While the primary dispatch is from the Dothan 911 Center, the Dothan Fire Command Center assists in managing the resources dispatched on calls. The goal is to maintain the level of service, but keep major resources free from calls and on stand by for major emergencies.

A example of this, a outdoor fire with a power line sparking. The fireman can not touch the line and has to stand by for Dothan Utilities. One particular call, the sparking line was number 6 in line for Dothan Utilities. The Dothan Fire Engine had to stand by for Dothan Utilities.

The Dothan Fire Command Center changes from a primary fire engine to the Dothan Fire Brush truck to stand by and wait on Dothan Utilities. The brush truck is prepared to handle the emergency. The primary Dothan Fire Engine returns to the fire station, prepared for other emergencies. On the fire engine are paramedics. If a major medical emergency or structure fire comes in, the primary engine is ready to roll.

This management during events such as this weather event helps Dothan Fire Department keep available the highest quality of service. This can not be managed through the 911 Center. The reason being the volume of 911 calls and routine calls for service, and the volume of police calls that come into the 911 Center.

Dothan Utilities is on the street attempting to restore power. At my driveway Wiregrass Electric and Dothan Utilities meet. Wiregrass Electric customers have power and Dothan Utilities is off. But Dothan Utility crews are working to restore power.

Dothan Street Department is on the street. They have placed barricades out on roadways where ice has covered the bridges and they are not safe for passage. One if Reeves Street at the overpass.

At 3:27 AM Houston County Patrol Captain Jeff Carlisle is on duty and at the Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Emergency Operations Center.

The Houston County Sheriff Department has been busy, but the volume calls are not as high as in Dothan.

Pilcher's Ambulance and CARE Ambulance in Dothan have been staffed and responding to the medical and fire emergencies. Equipped and ready for rapid deployment of multiple emergencies.
