Samson, AL: The intersection of Alabama State Highway 52 and Alabama State Highway 153 will kill someone if something is not done soon. Citizens are speaking out about the intersection being so dangerous. There were 2 wrecks at the intersection Sunday, one being minor, the second being overturned with ejection of a child. The majority of the accidents has been tourists. There seems to have been a change in GPS routes. Now, most beach traffic comes through Samson. Samson residents say this is a good thing, but then again a bad thing. The Revenue goes up with the traffic.
Citizens are now afraid to cross the intersection with the possibility of hitting someone. The tourists are traveling North on Alabama State Highway 153 approaching Alabama State Highway 52. Tourists believe the intersection is a 4-WAY STOP. Alabama State Highway 52 has a flashing yellow light alerting to use caution. Alabama State Highway 153 has a flashing red light alerting vehicles to STOP. When local citizens are traveling on Alabama State Highway 52 (East or West) they slow because they know how bad the intersection is, causing the tourists to think the intersection is a 4-WAY STOP.
There are no signs stating the intersection is a 2-WAY STOP. The reason it is a 2-WAY STOP is because straight across from Alabama State Highway 153 is Geneva County Road 5. Traffic from that road also has to stop. Pictures below show you how dangerous the intersection is.
