SOUTHERN JUNCTION: It was 3:54 AM when Houston County Sheriff 911 started sounding the volunteer fireman and EMS alerts...structure fire - Sonny Mixon Road and Singletary Road in Southern Junction - fully engulfed.
Southern Junction Fire Chief Matt Boster and members of Southern Junction Rolled, Rehobeth Fire and Rescue rolled, Hodgesville Volunteer Fire rolled, Taylor Volunteer Fire rolled. Also responding to assist was Campbellton and Graceville Fire Departments.
The nearest fire hydrant was about 4/10 of a mile from the scene. The residence was fully engulfed.
For a period of time Chief Boster and members of the Houston County Sheriff Department and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah feared someone was in the house.
Houston County Sheriff Deputies worked to locate the resident. He was located safe where he had spent the night away from home last night.
When fireman arrived the house was fully engulfed with flames. Also on fire were old cars and a old motor home which were in the yard. So the fire had been burning for some time before 911 was called.
Southern Junction was primary fire department. The scene was under the command of Southern Junction Volunteer Fire Chief Matt Boster. He did a great job as did all that were involved.
Pilcher Ambulance responded to asssit in standing by for Advanced Life Support in the event anyone was injured.
Houston County Sheriff Investigator Michelle Brunson is the primary investigator. Assisting her is Captain Bill Rafferty. Also called to the scene to help determine the cause of the fire is the Alabama State Fire Marshall.
