Retired teacher Lola Downs of Enterprise recently discovered the perfect volunteer job for a book lover. On most Thursday mornings she is one of five or six workers with the Friends of the Enterprise Library that sorts, prices and shelves dozens of books and other donated media.

April is especially busy because of the sale scheduled for Saturday, April 26 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and pre-sale for members of the Friends on Thursday, April 24 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

"We’re getting ready for the spring book sale and could use donations of CDs, DVDs, computer games and audiobooks. Of course, we always welcome donations of gently used books, " said Harriet Schmitz, co-director of the book sales.

Donations are made to the library and donors can get a receipt for tax purposes from the library staff. If the items aren’t needed for the library collection they can be sold by the Friends of the Enterprise Public Library, a 501(c)(3) organization.

According to Library Director Denise Unruh-Kitch, for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2013 the Friends provided $7,145 to help meet the needs of the library and its patrons, including the Summer Reading Program, computer software used by the library, the Gale E-Reference Collection fee, an update of the library’s website and items for the library’s collection.
