Dale County: As the sun rises on day five of the standoff and negotiations
continue. We continue to monitor the situation and will bring you updates as
they come available. Itís not known if Mr. Dykes has made any demands or why he
took the child. As of last reports the 6 year old was doing ok, he is getting
food and his medicine daily and appears to be doing fine under the circumstances.
News agencies from around the country and the wiregrass are
keeping vigil waiting for any news and how things are going. Law enforcement however
is keeping information tight lipped so it doesnít interfere with the ongoing negotiations
or the outcome of this situation.
The eyes of America are all watching and praying that this
ends peacefully and soon. From us here at RSN and other news outlets our hearts
and prayers go out to both families involved in this tragedy.
Please keep in mind that when you are traveling through this
area please slow down and keep a watchful eye on traffic in this area. Like law
enforcement, the local news crews have been on the scene since this all started
unfolding and will remain on scene until the end.
Last night a man came up to the news crews with his grill
hooked to his truck and told them he would cook for all of them today to help
feed the many people there. Up until last night the crews didnít even have
access to a restroom or a place to just get out of the cold. Thanks to the man
who owns the small closed gas station and to Tommy Ferguson they have to
provide them with such necessities.
Many reporters have been catching napes in their vehicles
trying to stay warm and get some much need rest. Someone brought an outdoor
heater and set it up to help with the cold weather.
From all the news media they would like to thank everyone
who has brought food, coffee and water to help keep them going.
