MONTGOMERY: It is kinda funny in the State of Alabama. While the Alabama Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard is under criminal indictment, he is elected by members of the Legislature to continue as Speaker of the House.
Yet, Alabama State Representative Dexter Grimsley is fired from his job under the Alabama double dipping law. A master piece of the republicans which allow Hubbard to remain in office.
Grimsley has been the Juvenile Probation Officer for Henry County for 19 years. He has been a member of the Alabama Legislature for four years. The day following his re-election, that State of Alabama terminated Grimsley as Juvenile Probation Officer.
Grimsley is taking the issue to court. He is represented by Dothan Attorney Stephen Etheridge and Dusty Fowler.
Grimsley contends he has taken vacation time and not been paid for both jobs. Therefore he was not double dipping. The contentions are also the Alabama Constitution outlines the requirement for Alabama State Representative. When the law was passed, there was no vote of the people amending the constitution.
The Judge has not ruled yet. Until then, Grimlsey remains UNEMPLOYED.
